Spa Francochamps-1998

David Coulthard dropped his car on the exit and slid across the track. He was hit several times before coming to rest back on the side of the track where he began to lose it. The Scottish driver later revealed that his accident was caused by hitting a metal grille. With so much spray cars behind didn't slow and just kept colliding at high speed, spreading debris far and high. It was such a lucky escape for drivers, spectators and marshalls. Only Rubens Barichello and Eddie Irvine suffered minor injuries.

The race was stopped and the clear up operation took nearly an hour. Some teams had both cars damaged and with only one spare car available, some people had to miss the restart. Barrichello, Salo, Rosset and Panis were now all out. For the other drivers it was a lengthy wait as they tried to remain focused and calm on the job ahead.

The proposed Formula One track that will be the site of the U.S. Grand Prix in Austin could hold 130,000 to 140,000 fans, race promoter Tavo Hellmund said Tuesday.
"It will be the biggest thing Austin has ever had," Hellmund said, adding that 50,000 of those fans could be seated in grandstands while the rest could sit on the grounds, stand or stroll around the track .
Hellmund revealed those details while speaking to an overflow crowd of more than 400 people at the Headliners Club in downtown Austin. He spoke at an event staged by the Urban Land Institute that sparked " an overwhelming response to tell you the truth," said David Knoll, director of the institute's Austin district council.

AUSTIN (KXAN) - A teenage girl walking to Bowie High School was dragged into the bed of a pickup truck and nearly raped by four men, police said Tuesday.

The girl escaped during the 8:50 a.m. attack on Monday, the first day of school, near the campus, police said. That afternoon, Bowie High School parents received a letter warning them of an "incident" that caused "great concern," but were given no more details - nor did it provide a description of the attackers.

It did, however, warn them to talk to their children about speaking to strangers.

""We want to reassure you that the safety of all our students and staff is our top priority," the letter read. "We ask all parents to talk to their students about safety practices such as, always walk with a partner, do not talk to strangers, and to tell an adult immediately if a stranger approaches them."

Austin police were expected to release more details in a 3 p.m. news conference.

In a news release, police said the attack happened in the 4500 block of Normal Trail.

"The males forced the victim into the bed of the truck and attempted to sexually assault her," the news release said. "The victim was able to escape and the suspects drove away."

The truck is described as follows:

•Older model silver Ford pickup

•4 doors with small dent on the tailgate

•Tinted back window

•Blue tarp in bed of truck

•Loud music

The males are described as:

•Early 20’s

•6 foot, muscular build

•Last seen wearing:

•Diamond earring in right ear

•Blue baseball cap with white brim

•Baggy denim shorts with plaid boxer shorts

•Red and white Jordan Tennis Shoes

Suspect #2

•Hispanic male, dark complexion

•Early 20’s, muscular build

•Last seen wearing:

•Yellow/orange “DC” logo shirt

•Yellow Nike tennis shoes

•Blue baseball cap with white brim

Suspects #3 and #4

The entire letter read:
