Lynch along with film historian and author Gene Brown provide commentary and anecdotes in voiceover as we move from one stunning photograph to another, from a street mural in Hollywood, to the California desert where Dixie Evans, "the Marilyn Monroe of Burlesque" (and now 82, the same age Marilyn would have been) runs The Museum of Burlesque. Lynch finds compelling Marilyn "sightings" everywhere: Munich, Paris, Barcelona, Equador, Mexico, Wales and other places. . .as well as throughout the United States.

By the way: Elvis Presley, and even his Mom Gladys have cameos.

Lynch's photographs, and the commentary in the multimedia piece raise the question of the reasons for Marilyn's continuing influence today, forty-six years after her death in 1962. Gene Brown notes: "What Mary Ann's photographs are really about is us, they're about the audience, and the way we perceive Marilyn and her place in our lives." They also point to Marilyn's positive influence on our culture today, (in as many ways as there are people who love, honor, revere, imitate, and display her image.

"There's every reason to believe Marilyn will make it into the next millennium with us," says Lynch. "I realized after I had been photographing (Marilyn) in several different countries that I could go anywhere and hold up a Marilyn Monroe photograph and get a smile. She's a global ambassador of love."

Lynch views the omnipresent legend and female icon as offering our jaded society a bit of the ancient goddesses, whose sexuality was viewed as powerful, yes, but also as sacred -- not profane. "Marilyn is a modern-day Aphrodite or Venus. Our one and only. Those who try to measure up to her are poor imitations of the real thing."

Lynch's aim with her ever-expanding Marilyn work is to offer a provocative new perspective on the world's most popular female Hollywood icon.

Gallery owner Cromer-Campbell (a photographer herself), who has spent time with both Lynch's photographs and gallery visitors, says of the exhibit: "Mary Ann's photographs show us how much Marilyn herself gave to the camera, and her dramatic range: She worked every inch of herself: from the tilt of her head, to the expression on her face, the placement of her hands and even the angle of her toes. Marilyn gave herself totally. What else I found fascinating is that those who come to look, and to sometimes purchase a photograph they fall in love with in, include fans of all ages. The other day, a mother and daughter came in and it was the daughter in her twenties that was the adoring fan."

The gallery is open Monday - Friday, 11am - 6pm and by appointment. TCC PHOTO | GALLERY is located at 207 N. Center St. and visit the online gallery at http://www.tccphotogallery.com.
