MEXICO 🇲🇽 AT THE DOCTOR: PHRASES

If you're planning to live in Mexico, there's a good chance you'll eventually visit a doctor, dentist, hospital, or medical laboratory.

And while many doctors in Mexico may speak some English, you shouldn't assume this.

For example, do you know what these common instructions mean?

  • Abra la boca – Open your mouth

  • Respire profundo – Take a deep breath

  • No se mueva – Don't move

  • En ayunas – On an empty stomach (you'll hear this before certain blood tests)

  • ¿Le duele? – Does it hurt?

You don't need to speak perfect Spanish to get medical care in Mexico. But knowing a few basic phrases can make your appointments much less intimidating!

That's why I've put together a helpful list of 50+ Spanish words and phrases you're likely to hear at a doctor's office, hospital, or medical laboratory in Mexico.
