Dutch institute issues a ‘Red Alert’ over potentially lethal Trump-shaped ecstasy pills

“Absolutely do not use these pills,” the institute warned.

It released a photo of the pills that have a depiction of Trump’s head on one side and on the other side “NL” and “Trump” stamped into the surface either side of a vertical line. One of the pills has a green face and another is yellow.

The institute warned in a “ Red Alert ” published on its website and social media that they contain a high concentration of a chemical called PMMA, or para-methoxymethamfetamine, that is similar to MDMA, the active ingredient in ecstasy pills.

PMMA is frequently linked to severe hospitalizations and deaths because it severely stresses the cardiovascular and nervous systems. [1, 2, 3]

Key Differences

Onset Time: MDMA usually takes effect within 30 to 45 minutes, but PMMA takes much longer to kick in. This delay often causes users to mistakenly think a pill is weak and take another dose, leading to accidental overdose.

Effects: PMMA produces weaker euphoria than MDMA alongside stimulation and mild hallucinations.

Toxicity: PMMA causes a steep, dangerous spike in body temperature (hyperthermia) and blood pressure at much lower doses than MDMA
