Inspector General Report: IRS Needs Employees |
|
|
The IRS’s Inspector General recently issued a report reinforcing what NTEU has said for years: taxpayers suffer when the agency is short-staffed. While dedicated IRS employees managed to do more with less and 99 percent of claims were processed without significant delay, the new report from the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration found that taxpayers who required assistance often struggled to get it due to massive cuts to the IRS workforce. After recklessly cutting around 30,000 employees, it’s no surprise the IRS has now realized it needs to hire approximately 8,000 employees to help restore workforce capacity and improve service to taxpayers. NTEU continues to call for adequate funding and staffing for the IRS and other represented agencies so they can provide the services Americans need and deserve. |
