PRO TIP- Now, one question that comes up from time to time is whether Mexico taxes your social security or foreign income in Mexico? And the answer is no. You follow the tax laws from your home country. However, Mexico does not tax your foreign earned income.
You are required to pay income taxes in Mexico if you work in Mexico. Including selling real estate, renting your Airbnb, providing consultations in Mexico, etc.
So, What Kind of Lifestyle Is This?
This is what I’d call a comfortable but simple beach lifestyle. You’re not living on a tight budget, but you’re also not spending on luxuries like a car, dining out all the time, or frequent travel.
What really keeps costs down here: - No car
- Utilities partially included
- Moderate dining out
- Simple, consistent routine
Why Mazatlán Is So Popular Right Now
If Mazatlán isn’t on your radar yet, it probably should be. Here’s why more expats are considering it: - Miles of beachfront + one of the longest malecóns in the world
- Lower cost than places like Puerto Vallarta or Cabo
- Warm weather year-round (hot summers, perfect winters)
- Growing expat community—but still very Mexican
- Great seafood and relaxed pace of life
It’s a great fit if you want a true coastal lifestyle without the higher price tags of more tourist-heavy destinations.
