The Hope Molecule

"Hope molecules" is an informal term for the proteins and peptides released during exercise that improve mood. These molecules are also known as myokines.  When muscles contract, they release myokines into the bloodstream.
The myokines travel to the brain, crossing the blood-brain barrier.
In the brain, myokines act as antidepressants, reducing stress and anxiety, and promoting resilience and positive emotions.
