On Friday, April 30, 2010, at 2 p.m., behind police headquarters on Grosvenor Street, the Toronto Police Service will announce a one−year evaluation of the BMW R1200RTP police motorcycle and an alternative police motorcycle uniform.

Deputy Chief Tony Warr will be on hand to welcome the new motorcycles and inspect the uniforms worn by officers chosen for the evaluation.

The Toronto Police Service has used a variety of motorcycles, dating back to 1912, including Harley Davidson, BMW, Honda, Henderson, Norton and Triumph.

It is important that the public is aware of this evaluation as the motorcycles will be used in general traffic patrol and enforcement duties. These motorcycles have a substantially different appearance from the current motorcycles, along with the uniform the officers will be wearing.

We want to ensure the public is aware that these are Toronto police officers.
The Toronto Police Service must ensure that we stay abreast of advancing technology and equipment that will allow our officers to perform their duties as efficiently and safely as possible. said Deputy Chief Warr, the Executive Sponsor of the evaluation project.
